Hi Hi

This is me showing up for the first time in 2024!

Happy New Year! (Lowers voice, hope I’m not too late)

I know the New Year started 19 days ago, and seriously, I have no excuse for taking this long to wish you, my dearest readers, a New Year. Forgive my manners; I can’t promise this won’t happen again, but I will make sure my first piece is up before the 10th of every January!

2024 started with this ever-present pressure to “level up” and claim your space in a dynamic world. I have seen a lot of write-ups, videos, and all kinds of content depicting how serious everyone intends to be while they level up. Nigerians have even gone the extra mile to tag 2024 as a year of “No gree for anybody”, meaning no one is compromising in 2024.

Well, I am not here to talk about “No gree for anybody” as “I dy gree” for many things this year.

This piece is focused on how to position yourself for value in 2024, whether “you dy gree” for anyone or not you need to position yourself for value. The “how” of value positioning does not lie in chasing trends or mimicking others but in unveiling your unique brilliance and aligning it with the needs of the current moment.

Here are some ways you can position yourself for value in 2024:

Know Your Worth

The journey begins with introspection. What are your strengths, skills, and passions? Don’t just list your resume; delve deeper into your inner self, the driving force behind your ambitions. Are you a creative problem solver? A meticulous organizer? A passionate advocate for sustainability? Identifying your core qualities is the first step to positioning yourself for value; it allows you to know where you should place yourself.

Keep Learning

While your core strengths are fundamental, continuous learning is vital. Identify the skills in demand for 2024 and look for courses, workshops, or even online communities that can equip you with the expertise to navigate the evolving landscape. Remember, learning is not a sprint but a lifelong marathon; hence, focus on skills that enhance your current knowledge and learn new ones. This constant growth keeps you adaptable, exposes you to untapped opportunities and increases your worth within your network.

Increase your Network

Have you ever heard that power lies with the people? How many people do you know that are valuable? Don’t underestimate the power of connections. Build genuine relationships with people in your field and beyond. Attend industry events, participate in online forums, and actively engage with your network. Start the year by being open to new people. The key to what you wish to achieve in 2024 might be with someone you have not connected with yet.

Be a Problem-Solver

I know some people have elites in their network but are still not valuable simply because they are not solving any problem. Over the years, I have learned that no human likes a liability; everyone wants someone to help them meet a certain need. This implies you should be a creative thinker who offers solutions to people and learns how to tailor your services to meet their unique needs.

Develop your Brand

In today’s digital age, personal branding is key to everyone who desires to be valuable and make an impact on the internet. This involves creating videos, designs and write-ups about what you do and what makes you different. Your brand goes beyond the internet; it’s how you dress, eat, talk and interact with others, especially in public gatherings.

Know your Timing

Positioning yourself for value also involves being at the right place and time. The timing for when to position matters a lot. For instance, you can’t meet someone at the hospital and start talking to him about designing a website for his company when clearly he needs a doctor’s attention. Knowing the right time to pitch is equally as important as the pitching.

Remember, the ultimate value lies not in external validation but in the satisfaction of knowing you are living your purpose, growing alongside others, and contributing to a brighter future.

Once again Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best in 2024!
